CHICO — An accident involving two cars on East Lassen Avenue required medical care for at least one person Saturday.

A white Chevrolet sedan rolled onto its roof while a black Subaru sedan sat upright nearby in the wreck, which occurred near the junction with White Avenue at approximately 12:40 p.m.

The Subaru had apparent damage to its left-rear tire, which was out of alignment and flat. There was body damage above the wheel, but it was not clear whether that occurred as a result of this incident.

Broken glass from the Chevrolet was scattered on the roadway, which the cars had blocked. Civilians at the scene diverted westbound East Lassen Avenue traffic onto White Avenue; eastbound traffic had to turn around or divert to Morseman Avenue.

One man who was apparently involved in the crash sat in a white plastic chair with a bleeding wound on his forehead, to which he was applying pressure. Paramedics, firefighters and police officers arrived at the scene and began to administer first aid.

There was no indication of which vehicle caused the accident.

Officers from the Chico Police Department received a call from a resident Friday morning, reporting the theft of two electric bicycles from a driveway.

The caller said the bikes had been locked to the rear of a vehicle. Video surveillance showed two men, unknown to the caller, taking the bikes without the owner’s permission.

The caller reported having placed a GPS location device on the bikes, which allowed a responding officer to track the general location of the bicycles. Police officers conducted an area check and found both bikes, separately, in the possession of brothers Joshua and Michael Coley.

Police arrested the duo on charges of grand theft, vandalism and possession of stolen property, and took them to the Butte County Jail in Oroville for booking.

Michael Coley is currently on parole and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
