Where to get the best RI lobster roll. 7 picks from ProJo readers poll

There's nothing quite like a lobster roll, and Rhode Island is full of excellent options.

But the quest to find the best one can be a long (and expensive!) search, so The Providence Journal recently put it to readers in an unscientific poll. First, we asked readers to nominate places to include in the poll on our Instagram page @ProJoEats, which we then compiled into a true poll asking people to vote for their favorite.

Hundreds of votes later, we have the results. Here are seven reader-favorite lobster roll spots to check out in Rhode Island.

Where to get it: 175 Memorial Blvd., Newport

What to know: The clear favorite in the poll, with a lead over 100 votes, Easton’s delivers a value that can’t be beat of $23.87 for twin lobster rolls, with a choice of mayonnaise or butter. There’s enough lobster in them for a full meal. Plus, you get to eat them right on the beach.

Where to get it: 239 Dyer St., Providence

What to know: This adorable seafood place is located by the Providence Pedestrian Bridge, and it’s dedicated to serving local seafood – including the crowd favorite lobster roll. It’s a warm lobster roll, with buttered tail and clay meat and mayo served with Old Bay fries. Come for the lobster roll, come back to discover the rest of the menu.

Where to get it: 190 Ocean Road, Narragansett or 5402 Post Road, Charlestown

What to know: Choose between Monahan’s famous hot lobster roll with lobster that’s been lightly sauteed in drawn butter & seasoning or their cold lobster roll, either way readers assure us you won’t leave disappointed. We’d be remiss not to mention the Narragansett location is set right on the seawall for a view that pairs perfectly with your dinner.

What to know: Here you can pick how you want your lobster roll: Small (which isn’t really that small at ¼ pound) or the giant ½ pound option. They’ll also prepare it three different ways: mixed with the house-made dill mayo, cold with warm butter on the side or tossed in warm butter. Right on the waterfront, guests are invited to come by land or by sea.

What to know: Sure, you’ve heard about their oysters and the oyster farm you can visit, but the lobster roll is also worth a trip. The lobster roll, which comes with fries but could be upgraded to truffle fries or even a beet and goat cheese salad, is a chilled lobster roll dressed with mayonnaise and chopped celery on a grilled buttery roll.

Where to get it: 100 Sabra St., Cranston

What to know: A Rhode Island institution for more than 80 years, Twin Oaks is known for its Italian food and hospitality, but don’t sleep on their lobster roll. A huge portion that goes light on the mayonnaise, readers voted it one of the best in the state.

Where to get it: 2247 Warwick Ave., Warwick

What to know: Starting with fresh ingredients, Tommy’s has two different lobster rolls on their menu: the hot lobster roll served on a brioche bun with a side of melted butter and the cold lobster roll that they’ve labeled as world famous. Either way, you can’t go wrong. And if that doesn't seem like enough lobster roll for you, they also have a giant option.
